Nice couple of weeks of steady training, have continued by walk to work and have added a Kettlebell session to our gym training.
Kettlebell swings put huge emphasis on core stability and legs, first session was last Friday and I still wasn't walking properly the following Tuesday, it's only a short 25 minute session but the intensity is unbelievable.
On Tuesday evening I went to see a Physio as after around 4 hours of walking my legs have started to seize up, must say it was painful but after a few days now starting to see the benefit.
We have a busy few weeks at home so unlikely to find the time for a long walk so will have to continue with walking to work and gym sessions.
Sam (age 14) and I will be taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for Acorn's Children's Hospice Trust. The challenge is for us to climb the highest peaks in Britain, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, in 24 hours. With 10 hours driving time this gives us just 14 hours to climb and descend all 3 Peaks to achieve the 24 hour challenge. This blog is to keep you updated of our progress. Training week ending 30th May
Very sorry but a busy few weeks have lead to no posts, so will re-cap on the last few weeks.
Training has been consistant for both of us now over the last 3 weeks, I have started to walk to work twice a week, it's about an hour and a half per session but carrying around 18 kilos, and Sam has now joined me for two Gym sessions every week.
With a last minute decision on Thursday 28th May we got up around 5.30am and drove over to Snowdon, our challenge was to complete this peak but instead of taking the route we will be doing in The 3 Peaks Challenge we took the Watkin Path. A much longer and steeper climb, in fact we climbed some 1295 feet more than we will do in September.
The morning was warm with low cloud and the ascent was pretty steady going but we did find the last hour of the climb to the Summit much harder than we thought, however at the top we were met with the most incredible view with the low lying cloud around a 1000 feet below. A quick spot of lunch and we were off back down the same route.
We completed the climb and descent in 6 hours, and got home for around 8pm, hard work but great day out.
